It’s been a wonderful summer for Canadian sports fans. The Toronto Raptors won their first NBA Championship in June and Bianca Andreescu became the first Canadian to win a tennis Grand Slam this September.
Andreescu won the US Open by beating tennis legend Serena Williams in straight sets. The second set went down to the wire when the American managed to win four straight games to tie. Fortunately for the 19-year-old rising star, she held on put on an incredible display to win her first Grand Slam.
After Andreescu’s victory, she appeared at the Tim & Sid talk show at Sportsnet to talk about her Grand Slam. Tim Micallef entertained the newly crowned US Open champion with questions about the tournament and her career, while Sid Seixeiro surprised her by bringing in the other important trophy in Canadian sports.

The surprise on Andreescu’s face was visible and immediately asked if she can hold the Raptors’ NBA championship trophy. The young champion also didn’t hide her excitement and posted a picture of her with the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
The Raptors then tipped their own hats back to Andreescu’s direction with a sweet reply:
Tell ’em, Champ!

The Raptors can relate with the elation Andreescu felt when she won the US Open. The Raps went up against heavy favorites in the Golden State Warriors. However, game-time heroics from Kawhi Leonard and big plays from Kyle Lowry and the rest of the team ensured that they close out the championship in six games.
While the Raptors aren’t likely to make a return to the Finals soon, they will revel in the fact that they finally won their first championship.
