It’s hard to believe that almost five months have passed since the Raptors became NBA champions. The team’s historic win is still alive and well in Toronto’s zeitgeist, and soon we will have a film to commemorate it. A Toronto Raptors NBA Championship film is set to be released on October 22, 2019.
The documentary, which is being produced by Cinedigm and NBA Entertainment, will feature never-before-seen footage of the team’s harrowing journey to bringing the Larry O’Brien Trophy to Toronto for the first time.
According to Cinedigm, the film takes fans from the Raptors’ first day of training camp all the way through to their intense finals run against the Golden State Warriors. Viewers will also get an inside look at Raptors mania across the country, from enthusiastic crowds in Toronto’s Jurassic Park to viewing parties in Canada’s small towns.
The doc will feature exclusive interviews with Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry, Nick Nurse and Marc Gasol.
However, out of all of the film’s exciting details, there is one that stands out, and it’s the promise of a Kyle Lowry blooper reel.
That’s right, an entire reel of Lowry bloopers is expected to be included in the DVD’s extras alongside a reel of Kawhi Leonard Top NBA Finals Players, Serge Ibaka’s fundraiser and a highlight reel of Toronto Raptors nostalgia.
What exactly will be included on this reel is anyone’s guess at this point, but we like to think it will feature plenty of Lowry’s pre-game shenanigans. Fingers crossed that his adorable family makes a cameo appearance.
Lowry is a beloved Raptors veteran and Toronto can’t get enough of his goofy antics. He’s an honourary Canadian at this point, and he’s said that he and his family are making long term plans to stay in the city.
According to the NBA, Lowry recently agreed to a one-year, $31 million contract extension with the Raptors that will keep him from entering next year’s free-agent market.
