There was some speculation that veteran big man Al Horford could have potentially been on the move at this past year’s NBA trade deadline, but the Oklahoma City Thunder ultimately kept him on their roster. However, both sides did agree for Horford to sit out the remainder of the season that way some of the Thunder’s younger players could get a chance to prove their worth moving forward.
Al Horford is not in the Thunder’s long-term plans at this point and while his contract is definitely hard to move, there will be some teams that could show some interest in the veteran frontcourt player, one of those teams being the Toronto Raptors. He will undoubtedly be a name to watch in NBA trade rumors this offseason.
This season has been a disaster for the Raptors and all season long, they have been struggling to find consistent play from their frontcourt. Early on, Aron Baynes was not really productive for them, then Chris Boucher injured his knee and now Khem Birch has taken over the starting center position.
Birch has actually been a really solid pickup for the Raptors and could be a player they look to bring back next season, but could they look to trade for Al Horford in the offseason? Horford could definitely still contribute at a high-level and he could fit in quite nicely in Toronto’s system.
Moving Horford’s contract is not going to be simple for the Thunder to do, but the Raptors will have cap space and could have a need for a proven frontcourt talent like Al Horford. Let’s take a look at a hypothetical offseason trade presented by Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz that would send Al Horford to the Toronto Raptors at a small price.
