We’re in the part of the offseason where we’re getting a little hungry for news about our hometown team. You know, that horrible, awful part of the season, where your team is out of the playoffs, but the playoffs are still going on, and free agency hasn’t started, and your team is picking at the bottom of the draft which still seems ages away…
That part of the offseason.
Sandler appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week, and brought up the film, which is called Hustle and is being produced by LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment company. Sandler said that Lowry would be “coming by to do a quick little thing” for the film, which is convenient, since production is starting in Lowry’s hometown of Philadelphia.
Since everyone on earth has an IMDB page now, I checked out Kyle’s, and while he’s got plenty of typical NBA broadcasting “credits” like The ESPYs, The Jump and NBA on TNT, he does not have any feature film appearances. And while getting your first screen credit in an Adam Sandler movie may not be the height of Hollywood prestige… hey, Sandler’s last basketball-related film was pretty good!
Obviously we don’t know much about Lowry’s presence in the film at this point; we’ll got out on a limb and suggest he’ll be playing a basketball player, very likely himself, and since Sandler called it a “quick little thing” we’ll urge caution against expecting a large role.
Sandler described the movie as a “scout movie” (which I guess places it in the same genre as Jerry Maguire, and, uh, The Air Up There…?), and says, “I’m playing an NBA scout and I discover a player in Spain and I bring him to America. It’s that kind of story, it’s going to be really cool.”
We’ll reserve judgment for now.
