Nick Nurse signs $8 million/year contract with Raptors, sneaks into top 5 highest paid NBA coaches lis


The Raptors re-signed head coach Nick Nurse on a hefty $8 mil per year contract, making him the 4th highest earning coach in the NBA.

Despite the 2nd round loss to the Boston Celtics, the Raptors have decided to re-sign the head coach Nick Nurse. The recently crowned Coach of the Year has an impressive resume to back him.

He led the Raptors to their first-ever title in his very first season and then despite the exit of Kawhi Leonard, the Raptors finished 2nd in the Eastern Conference.

Nick Nurse has been very successful as a coach, going 111-43(.721) in the regular season. In the playoffs, Nurse has a 23-11 record(.676). The numbers are impressive on paper already, but when you look at the conditions the Raptors played with this season, they get much more impressive.

The 2019-20 season was full of injuries for the Raptors and they rarely had their entire squad on the floor. Despite all that, the Raptors were #2 in the East, only to trail the MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks.

WIth his new contract extension, Nick Nurse is set to make $8 mil per year. This figure trails San Antonio Spurs’ Greg Popovich making $11 mil per year, GSW’s Steve Kerr’s $9.5 mil per year, and Miami Heat’s Erik Spoelstra’s $8.5 mil per year. He ties Dallas Mavericks’ Rick Carlisle at $8mil per year.

What does the 2020-21 season hold for the Raptors?

With the current defending champions Toronto Raptors being knocked out of the playoffs in the second round, they’re back to the drawing board. With Fred VanVleet entering free-agnecy, the Raptors have a few decisions to make.
