Reports have been swirling around social media that Toronto Raptors big man Marc Gasol is planning to end his National Basketball Association career and sign with FC Barcelona.

It was reportedly all but a done deal that Gasol would return home to Spain, according to FC Barcelona podcast host Sergi Carmona.

Both brothers have been linked to Barcelona, however, the club has been denying it. Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius would without a doubt want to bolster his frontcourt with players of such caliber but he as well noted that there hasn’t been any contact with Marc.

Toronto Raptors fans are bummed about the rumors but they are celebrating Gasol for the role he played in their last two seasons being such tremendous successes. The important thing now is not to rush. “Whenever that process starts, as far as thinking goes, we’ll start making those decisions when the time comes”. This season, he averaged a career-low 7.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists as he battled injuries throughout the year. As Toronto enters an offseason where Gasol, fellow big man Serge Ibaka and guard Fred VanVleet are all set to become free agents, president Masai Ujiri said retaining all their free agents is a priority.
