KANATA, ON — The Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Ottawa Senators in the first of back-to-back games at Canadian Tire Centre on Friday.
The Leafs held on option skate that included veterans Wayne Simmonds and Joe Thornton. After about 20 minutes of work, the remaining taxi squad (or stay ready squad) players and goaltender Aaron Dell stayed on for an on-ice session led by assistant coach Manny Malhotra leading the session.
The Maple Leafs will go with the same lineup that defeated the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime in their season opener on Wednesday.
Jack Campbell will make his season debut on Saturday when these teams square off on the tail end of back-to-back games. Keefe says we “shouldn’t assume” that this will be a pattern for the entire season.
All eyes will be on Senators forward Tim Stutzle. The No. 3 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft will make his season debut. The German prospect also celebrates his 19th birthday today.
The Senators are the last of the seven teams in the North Division to make their season debut.
