Kyle Lowry joining Adam Sandler in Netflix movie

Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry is reportedly starring in a move produced by LeBron James’ Springhill Entertainment company.

Adam Sandler will star in the film, entitled Hustle. Sandler plays a scout who discovers a prospect in Spain and brings him to America.

Sandler–who drew critical acclaim for his performance in Uncut Gems–said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live Lowry will be involved in a scene in his hometown Philadelphia, and other NBA players are also involved, per Aaron Rose of Sports Illustrated. The movie will stream on Netflix, and it will be Lowry’s first appearance in a fiction film.

Lowry has plans off the floor, but his status with the Raptors remains something of an uncertainty.

The veteran point guard is under contract through the 2020-21 season after signing an extension with Toronto this past year. However, the Raptors are in flux as they prepare for the offseason.

Lowry’s backcourt mate, Fred VanVleet, will be an unrestricted free agent. Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol will also hit the open market. It is possible Toronto could look to move Lowry if they hope to re-sign especially VanVleet–coming off a career year–and Ibaka.

However, Raptors president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri has not given any indications the team will move on from its longtime point guard.

Ujiri has given Lowry his appraisals for the past few weeks, even suggesting Lowry might be worthy of a statue outside ScotiaBank Arena when all is said and done.

In any case, Lowry will prepare to begin filming as the Raptors enter a challenging offseason.
