It is the best time of the year: NBA draft season. With that comes mock draft after mock draft. After the conclusion of the NBA combine and the arrival of the deadline for players to withdraw, things are starting to play out. Evan Mobley, the star big man from USC, is easily a top-five pick, although different outlets have different landing spots for him.

Matt Norlander of CBS Sports released his latest NBA mock draft on Thursday, and Mobley fell to No. 4 overall to the Toronto Raptors. Of course, Mobley can realistically go to any team in the top five, and the Raptors make a ton of sense for both sides with their need for a talented big man.

In retrospect, Mobley “falling” to the Raptors would be golden for Nick Nurse. It isn’t beyond the bounds of logic to think Mobley lands in Toronto in a couple of weeks.

As usual, Cade Cunningham goes first overall to the Detroit Pistons. That’s the consensus, and if the Pistons don’t take Cunningham, everybody will be shocked.

Jalen Suggs out of Gonzaga goes to the Houston Rockets at No. 2, and Scottie Barnes boosts his stock big time and lands at No. 3 with the Cleveland Cavaliers in Norlander’s latest mock draft. It’s Barnes’ potential that has him shooting up the board.

Back to Mobley and his fit with the Raptors, which would be perfect: Fred VanVleet is the starting guard. Pascal Siakam and O.G. Anunoby–and possibly Kyle Lowry, depending on free agency–remain as the other starters. Malachi Flynn had a strong end to the season in his rookie campaign and Gary Trent Jr. is expected back after the Raps acquired him at the NBA trade deadline. Adding Mobley would immediately thrust this team back into playoff contention.

After a year with Aron Baynes starting a lot of games at the center position, Mobley to Toronto would be a home run pick for the organization.
